Red Brass – Grade C23000

Red Brass – Grade C23000 is a high-copper wrought brass alloy containing approximately 85% copper and 15% zinc. Its elevated copper content provides a distinctive reddish color, excellent corrosion resistance, and superior ductility compared to standard yellow brasses.

C23000 is a wrought alloy (not cast), making it suitable for rolling, extrusion, drawing, and forming operations. It should not be confused with cast red brasses such as C83600.

Metallurgical & Strengthening Behavior

Single α-phase microstructure
Strengthening by solid solution strengthening (Zn in Cu)
Primary strengthening via cold working (rolling, drawing)
Annealing restores ductility and formability
No precipitation or heat-treat hardening

Exhibits excellent resistance to dezincification and stress corrosion cracking.

Available Forms

Sheets and plates
Strips and coils
Rods and bars
Tubes and pipes
Wires

Typical sheet thickness range: 0.2 mm – 6 mm

Applications

Plumbing & Water Systems
Pipes and tubes
Wrought plumbing fittings

✔ Attractive reddish appearance
✔ Good electrical and thermal conductivity

Why Choose Red Brass – Grade C23000?

C23000 Red Brass is selected when superior corrosion resistance, long service life in water or marine environments, and excellent forming performance are required in a wrought copper alloy.

It is widely accepted by plumbing codes and is a reliable choice for rolled, drawn, or extruded products.

Industry Rule:
If the component carries water or steam, operates in corrosive environments, and requires forming rather than casting, C23000 is the correct red brass choice.
